For those of you who know me, this is preaching to the choir, but I will remind you again none the less. NOTHING is more important for a healthy, glowing complexion than water (and sunscreen).

The fact is that skin is an organ, and just like any other part of the body. your skin is made up of cells. And skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without water, the organs will certainly not function properly or at their best.
It is thought that at birth the body is made up of around 90% water but this level decreases with age. By the time we reach full adulthood water levels in the body will be between 60 – 75%. The aging process causes the body’s cells to become impaired and die off and the removal of waste products and other toxins from the body becomes less effective. Blood is composed of around 90% liquid and it may come as a surprise to find out that even your bones contain around 20% liquid. Muscles contain around 75% water and all the cells of your body contain water.
The body constantly loses water via perspiration, urination and even from breathing and this needs replacing.

The fact is that water plays a large part in maintaining a healthy and youthful looking complexion. With an adequate supply of water the moisture levels of the skin’s cells are replenished and this in turn gives the skin a smooth, moist and fresh appearance.

Water improves the texture and condition of the skin to give a glowing complexion and it also helps to plump out the facial muscles thus contributing to a younger looking appearance.

Finally the bottom line is that an inadequate supply of water can dry out the skin and be a major cause of fine lines and ultimately deeper wrinkles – we can’t emphasize enough that drinking enough water is vital for beautiful skin.
So what is the best way to add water to the skin?
• Apply a hydrating moisturizer within 2 minutes of leaving the bath or shower. The skin is still porous and is vulnerable to products that are applied following the bath or shower, allowing better absorption.
• Apply a product containing hyaluronic acid prior to your moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times its own weight in water, thus attracting water to the skin and holding it there.
• Remember that you apply skin care products from the thinnest consistency to the thickest, with your sunscreen being the last product you apply.
Drink more water

Drinking at least 8 glasses a day will help rid the body and skin of toxins. Everyone will not agree that water consumption will improve skin… but it certainly can’t hurt. Many people often report that by increasing their water intake, their skin has a more radiant glow. Those who suffer from acne have reported the same results. Nothing will happen overnight, but even a good couple of weeks of increasing water intake should be enough for you to see how hydration affects your own skin.
For A Younger Looking You…
When it comes to beautiful skin water is your number one skin-friendly tool when it comes to fighting off the aging process. The power of water and the effects it has on your skin are undeniable – water has been called the fountain of youth after all!
